I want to take my husband and two children (aged nine and seven) to a Greek island. I don't mind which one, but I am looking for a villa with a private mooring, so we can hire a motor boat. Sunday Times travel expert Richard Green responds: North eastern Corfu is the perfect spot to have a motor boat with your villa ­ there are many secluded bays and beaches, pretty little harbours to drop anchor for lunch at, and a good reputable boat hire company based at Kassiopi.

The boat will be an extra cost: about £200 per week for a basic engine-steered 15 horsepower model, or £350 for 25 horsepower and a steering wheel, if arranged through a villa specialist.

Villa Katrina is near to the popular little harbour resort of St Stephano, tucked away high above a secluded beach just around the headland. It sleeps up to six, has a stunning infinity pool, a great dining terrace, and cosy décor. The mooring is just a couple of minutes walk away down some rough steps. The villa costs from £3,300 for a week, including flights from London, and transfers, from CV Travel (020 7401 1026).

The company also has villas with boat hire on nearby Paxos too.

Right on Corfu's sweeping Avlaki Bay and Beach is the Avlaki Beach House.

It's a bright and spacious property with a good pool and nice gardens, and you can anchor the boat in the shallow waters in front. The villa sleeps up to 10 and costs from about £2,350 a week, not including flights. The little resort of Agni makes a great sail from here. Book through Meon Villas (0800 783 1410).

Or, just outside Agios Stefanos, Sunisle (0800 0911 601) has the Villa Petros. It's about a 20-minutes walk from the boat hire company and this is where you have to return the boat to each evening. It's more modestly furnished, but has a great hilltop location, and a lovely pool. It sleeps up to eight and costs from about £500-2,000 a week, excluding flights. Sunisle can also organise villas and boat hire and mooring on Kefalonia and Paxos.
