Can you tell me what the rules are about taking both prescribed and over-the-counter medicines through transit in Dubai, which I have heard has its own set of rules about medicines. Russell Secker, by email
Ginny McGrath, Times Online Travel News Editor responds: The rules on Dubai medicine have caught out travellers in the past, so it's worth checking the list of banned substances here. It is very detailed and should allow you to look up any medicines or drugs that you are planning on taking with you.
Even if you are only in transit in Dubai, if your luggage is being unloaded and sent through security scanners it would be wise to adhere to the rules. The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing also recommends looking at this link, which has details on rules governing what can be carried in hand luggage.
