The principle couldn’t be simpler: get a little moustache tattooed on the side of your index finger. If at any time you need to wear a moustache, perhaps as a disguise, you’re all set up.

Origins: There is great debate over the origins of the fingertache. Rival tattooists, one in Federal Hill, Rhode Island , and one in Columbus, Ohio , both claim to have been the first. The chap in Rhode Island says he once did 15 finger tattoos in one day, but the guy in Columbus seems to have a wider range of ‘tache styles.

Styles: More committed fingertachers go for the biker: a long moustache drooping over two fingers. Less committed fingertachers use a marker pen. Interestingly, fingertache adoption seems equally spread between men and women, with women favouring the thin and curly, while men tend to go for big and bushy.

The future: Remember, though, that the flexible skin on your finger gets lots of wear and tear, so your ‘tache will probably be a smudge in a couple of years. Shame.
