A The technique of SSH tunnelling (secure shell tunnelling) is a way to send encrypted information securely from one computer to another either over the internet or across a local network. The main problem is that it requires a degree of technical knowledge — such as understanding the exact difference between a port and a server.

In reality, you are more at risk from a trojan or virus infecting your computer and then stealing your passwords than you are from a shadowy hacker grabbing your traffic over the internet. The exception is if you are using a public wi-fi network, in which case I strongly suggest you use a tool such as Hotspot Shield (free at hotspotshield.com ), which protects your data while it is in wireless transit.

Try to avoid sending sensitive information such as passwords and credit-card numbers over the internet, especially in a public hotspot.
