Bloggers reacting to the revamed iMac have been quick to conjure up the warm sense of adoration that has become customary for the online community when Apple introduces new products.
"My my, aren't you a sleek and sexy thing," wrote Simon Kitson on his blog kitsimons. "The new iMac is quite simply stunning, all dressed up in anodised aluminium and glass."
'7th lovechild', writing on the blog MindSpaceMind, said: "I can't say how much I love the new design.. the sleek finishing.. the slim body.. the black border frame.. it just oozes elegance and sophistication ... oh yeah... the new keyboard!!!! it's just so sleek!!!"
There was some consternation at the decision to remove the 'Open Apple' symbol from what had become known as the 'Open Apple' key and replace it with the word Command.
Scott McNulty on 'The Unofficial Apple Weblog' wrote: "I'll miss that little Apple logo. Call me old fashioned if you like, but Open Apple will always have a fond place in my heart and I'm not afraid to admit it."
Kerry Buckley, however, over on the blog 'What's the simplest thing that could possibly go wrong?' countered: "It's a good thing. It saves on those ever-popular: 'Just hit command-S. No the one with the clover leaf on it' conversations."

Just ordered a 24" one... cant wait for it to arrive and start using Logic Studio on it... Apple are far superior to anything PC based (apart from games, but thats only an issue to 15-year olds etc...)

Roy, Business people are dinosaurs, thats why. There was a time when only 5% of people used cars or the internet, didnt mean they werent great things. Apple is progress and PC's are antiquated in everything from marketing to functionality. In science and arts/graphics etc. Apple's are phasing out PC's quickly, not to mention new sales. And Yes, it is a cult, try a mac and find out why.

Call me a convert. I love my Macbook Pro (my first Mac) and I can't wait to get one of the new iMacs. Using Parellels, I can run XP and Vista side-by-side with my OS X. I still use a PC at work, but the I am totally enamored with my everything Mac.

So, now, instead of a white plastic computer exterior with white keyboard and white mouse, we have a black and chrome computer exterior, white and chrome keyboard and white mouse. A little mismatched, perhaps? The thing looks absolutely horrendous. What is the point of the black border around the screen?
I was planning on purchasing a new iMac when Leopard is released. I'm now actually considering buying an older iMac and upgrading to the new OS in October.

I totally agree with Mark from Springfield, a black and silver keyboard would be a much better match. Besides that I love it!
Sid, St. John's,
To Mark, Springfield: I got a 20" white one a few months ago and I think I prefer the look of it, but I agree the new bluetooth keyboard will go nicely with it, so I just ordered one!
To Ray, Vancouver: Apple markets their computers as beautifully designed items that you have to pay a little extra for (though surprisingly little) if you want to feel more pampered than if you go for the generic warehouse equivalent PC. Imagine you're an employer with 100 ungrateful employees bleeding you dry, eating into your non-existent margins with their incessant demands. What kind of computer are you going to buy them so they can waste time surfing the web all day? (Besides this, the creative industries, especially movies/music production, are dominated by Macs.)
Godfrey Wind, Austin, TX
Ray - the business community never took to macs cause noone trusted a couple of hippies in a garage. Wheras you could buy a PC from a trusted supplier like IBM, esp when Compaq reversed engineered the PC and produced clones --> cheaper.
This is all despite Apple making a geniune "graphical/windows" based machine and the PC being made in a rush from industry components available (basically a calculator chip x86). Hence early PCs were a real mess wheras Apples were designed for the job.
Apples back then and even until 95 were far superior in performance, stability and ease of use to ms windows machines.
Apple used proprietry hardware (Nubus? instead of industry stanbdard PCI) and Motorola chips. Bill Gates actually wanted Apple to licence their OS for use on other platforms.
IMO - Apple should have decided on HW or SW, dam shame really.

The "new" iMac is a big disappointment in design terms. The "chin" is still there and, when viewed with the ultra-slim keyboard, looks more out of proportion than ever.
And can someone tell my why Apple (or anyone else) doesn't offer a keyboard with a built-in trackpad instead of a separate mouse? I'd buy a bluetooth keyboard with integrated trackpad in a second.
DB Smith, Cuba, NY
I Like the new iMac but one thing bothers me about the new keyboard. The colors for the new iMac are basically black and silver, however the colors of the new keyboard and mouse are white and silver like the old iMac. Wouldn't black and silver on the keyboard and mouse be a better match for the new system? What do you think?
Mark, Springfield,
Totally great! The looks are astonishing and once again will have the rest of the industry playing catch up. I can't wait until OS X Leopard can be added.
Len Nigro, University Place, Washington
My Apple friends all act as if Apple is a religious cult instead of a company with a 5 percent market share. What's with all that? A computer is a computer and its the results that count. My favorite computer service shop recently switched from Apple to PCs because he got tired of bringing up the rear sales-wise. If Apple is so great, why hasn't the business community taken to it? Let's hear Steve Jobs on that question.
