Reasons to buy This compact 12.2 megapixel camera packs more computing power into its tiny body than a PC from ten years ago. Its touch-screen controls are refined and work impressively, and it is the first small camera on sale in the UK to come with GPS. It also has wi-fi and Bluetooth built in, so you can e-mail or transfer images wirelessly.
Reasons not to The GPS wears heavily on the battery, even when the camera is switched off. The smart auto mode makes more mistakes than the auto mode, while the PC-only photo management software included works, to a point, but can crash under pressure. Try Google’s free Picasa 3 as an alternative. Mac users will be happy to stick with Apple’s far superior iPhoto application.

Verdict The big screen is great, and though the controls take a little getting used to, after a couple of days they become instinctive. I gave this camera a hard time at the Tokyo Game Show the other week, and it came through with sharp images, bright colours and good contrast, even in poor conditions.
