Game review: Mirror’s Edge
PS3, Xbox 360, £50. Age 16+
In a futuristic city you play as Faith, a female courier who uses free-running techniques to race across rooftops while operating on the fringes of the law.
It’s first-person viewpoint action, but this is not a traditional shooter. Instead it’s a game of running, clambering and jumping around the city. As you leap across gaps or clutch onto ledges, you’ll see your legs flail then slam into the concrete as you land.
It is all played at a breathless speed and the surprisingly intuitive controls urge you forward. The graphics have a highly distinctive style and clear lines. That said, the sheer pace can be overwhelming and the levels sometimes lack directions, leaving you frustrated. This takes the shine off Mirror’s Edge, but at its best this is sparkling entertainment.
