Game review: The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor
PS2, Wii, £25. Age 12+
This week brings another film tie-in - an action game to accompany the new Mummy movie. It casts you as father and son explorers Rick and Alex O’Connell. You begin as Alex, jumping from ledge to precipice exploring tombs while fighting adversaries - it’s reminiscent of Prince of Persia, and you need precise jumps to progress. The learning curve is steep and although the action is occasionally satisfying, it’s mostly dull. Combat is particularly tedious and gunplay hard to master. Released for the PS2 rather than solely the newer consoles, its old-school graphics are humdrum, with painfully jagged edges. Voices - from the film’s actors - are well done, yet this content is sparse and often repeated. While this mummy game is fast-paced, it frankly lacks magic or even a pulse and is best left in its tomb.
