Boasting attitudes and wardrobes guaranteed to set tongues wagging at the snootiest Home Counties golf clubs, Outlaw Golf 2 stars a rag-tag cast of club-wielding trailer-trash for a little tongue-in-cheek recreation.

At the heart of the 16+ rated outing is a very reasonable golf game that can be approached any number of ways. As well as quick or exhibition and tour careers, players can venture out on the Outlaw Range to hone their shot skills. There is also an online option for multiplayer games in which four can compete either in rotation or, for added mayhem, simultaneously.

The choice of courses ranges from the picturesque to the downright unlikely — including Turnpike Valley, a course located in the heart of New Jersey’s industrial wasteland. The controls take a bit of getting used to. Players pull back on the right or left analogue stick on the controller to fill up the shot power meter then flick it forward in as straight a motion as possible to take the shot. Droll comments are dished out by the commentator after each stroke is taken, although such taunts do little to help you improve your game.

This outing is more rounded than the original and has more choice — such as eight courses to play compared with only three in the original — and at £17.99 it is good value.
