This Simpsons Game is far smarter and considerably more polished than your average adaptation. Not only does it get the look of the cartoon just right, but perhaps more importantly it also accurately captures the satirical attitude of the hit show. The game is set in a huge, virtual Springfield in which you can roam around freely. However, this is merely a framework for individual missions in which you play as different members of the Simpsons family. Each member has his or her own special video-game powers. Homer, for example, transforms into a gas-fuelled ball of blubber, and Marge has the ability to stir up angry mobs at will. The levels are cleverly based around these abilities and a knowingly silly storyline ties things together nicely. The occasional camera or control glitch sometimes spoils things, but sharp dialogue keeps you chuckling. Witty, entertaining and intelligent, this is indeed the definitive game of the show.
