The idea: There’s nothing like the internet for naming and shaming. In the past, if you witnessed, for example, heroically bad parking, the most you could do was curse under your breath. Now you've got options
The original: Back in 2005, a Yahoo! employee calling himself "ycantpark" got so fed up with the lazily parked cars littering the Yahoo! car park that he started posting snapshots to Flikr. Pictures of BMWs blocking the fire lane got links from all over the internet.
The professional: Platewire is a slick-looking site created by Mark Buckman from Washington DC after he had five near-miss collisions. The site is simple: if you see a bad driver, take a note of his plate, upload it to the site and leave a comment. One driver, with the plate IDRVFAST, ended up with his picture in The Wall Street Journal. Platewire already has 27,000 plates in the database.
The sticker gang: For a more immediate hit, buy a stack of self-explanatory stickers from iparklikeanidiot.com — a site created by Chicago company skinnyCorp, which sold 30,000 stickers in 2006. You can print your own free from youparklikeanasshole.com .
The specialists: Caughtya.org collects pictures of able-bodied people parking disabled spots, while mybikelane.com lets cyclists snap drivers blocking the bike lanes.
The Brits: Complaining is our national sport, so baddriving.com is full of pictures of Vauxhall Astras blocking suburban driveways, complete with irate comments.
The future: There are already sites where you can shame people for dropping litter, letting their dogs foul the pavements and even HollaBack, which lets women post shots of lecherous men.
