David Cameron stepped into the row over the role of black fathers by last night agreeing with Barack Obama that too many black men were shirking their responsibilities towards their children.
Calling for a “responsibility revolution”, the Conservative leader said that, in his dialogue with the black community, many church leaders had expressed their worries over an abdication of responsibility by black fathers. He said that Mr Obama was “absolutely right” when the Democratic presidential candidate said in a recent speech that some black men were behaving like teenagers.
“I think it’s a very brave thing to do. And it will have a huge influence that he has said it,” he told The Guardian.
He added that the historic discrimination and economic disadvantages experienced by black people also had to be addressed.
He revealed that he will challenge Gordon Brown today by publishing the detailed expenses of the whole of the Conservative front bench, as well as all but 18 backbench Tory MPs’ claims for taxpayers’ money.
Mr Cameron said that he would call a half-day Commons debate in which his party will back a motion appealing for all members of the House to register their expense claims.

political correctness has to end. If people are too sensitive to take criticism then tough. If your fat (and i am) its down to you, if your a criminal, its nobody elses fault, if you got 0 gcses you may not from the most conducive environment, but did someone take your exams for you? responsibility

What is David Camerron going to do about it. Its not only black parents, its the whole society that is in shambles. Is this another political campaign. A lot of parents in the estates are worse off than the black fathers. This is stereotyping
Miriam Jones, Leeds, yorkshire
I'm sure more than a few white fathers shirk their duties.Fact: more young black males are in prison. Fact:young black women end up with socially spread diseases. Lack of guidance gets young black men incarcerated, and lack of a model of a man infects the young black women.
Tisha, Orlando, United States
This headline is so obviously sensationalised. Why not lead with Mr Cameron's support for ending discrimination and prejudice? This makes it sound like Mr Cameron and the Tories are simply dumping on black fathers with no helpful solutions to offer.
Gavin Lavery-Slater, London, England
I realy do like this squable of words. Look, just because you don't like a certain politician, doesn't mean you attack them. This particular issue is a matter of fact so the real discussion point and question is how we, politicians and citizens alike, deal with it.
Joe, Fareham, England
It's about time more so-called leaders started telling things as they really are - whether the fathers (and mothers) be black, white or khaki. As long as we have 'leaders' defining failure as 'deferred success' and mask every example of bad behaviour as ADHD or due to 'child poverty', we are sunk.
Alan Gooch, Honiton,
One must not overlook the role of police heavy hand approach to black fathers in family conflicts, most black mothers are aware of that and use it to their advantage at the expense of their kids
Kofi Takudzwa, Nottingham, UK
So does this mean that all white fathers support their children.
DCH, Nottingham , UK
No it doesn't; that's only said in your reactionary little head. So now we're clear on that, what's your point?
Hallelujah Cameron. Now the gauntlet is laid: what is the black community going to do about it?
Laura Roberts, London, UK
"Currently, the tax system is skewed against marriage."
No, it is not. Marriage may not have tax perks, but you do NOT have to pay more tax when you are married and you do NOT get tax deductions when you're not. I wish!
M.R., Stockport,
Obama is spot on.
The fact that Obama and Cameron are pointing out a palpable fact (among the causes for so much dissolution and suffering) does NOT of course mean that they are ipso facto suggesting that all white fathers are supportive of their children. How juvenile to read it that way!
Chris, Wa, UK
So does this mean that all white fathers support their children. My dad was white and didn't give any financial support to my mum while I was growing up.
Its a bad move by Obama who is trying to turn on his own to brown nose white voters. Shame.
DCH, Nottingham , UK
So what do the Tories intend to do? Currently, the tax system is skewed against marriage, and schools and every government service are at best neutral to marriage and often hostile. Divorce has never been easier but children need fathers and stable family life.
George, Bolton, England
I think you will find Barack Obama is trying to appeal to a white audience with his unhelpful remarks on black fathers. This fraud won't be the next president and the equally fraudulent David Cameron will not be the next Prime Minister. Let it be said, many white fathers are just as bad.
John McSharry, Preston, england
