The signs outside churches advertising God are as close as most get to hearing a sermon. They can be embarrassing, inspiring, intimidating and hilarious all at once and no where more so than in America.

Sign outside a church in Tyneside, UK (remember Joseph was a carpenter). "Joiners wanted, apply within. The pays not much but the retirement benefits are out of this world".
Tony Taylor, York, UK
according to most people Jesus was blond and blue eyed and had extra long hair and was built like a model.
all the angels are blond and fat and are flotating.
I always wanted to know why this "belief" is so centered on Aryan values
moumi, Neuilly,
A church in Arnold, Missouri, advertises itself (in the newspaper) as "The Exciting Baptist Church". I've never been there, but my curiosity is piqued.

I read Bil Green's epistle with interest. He has certainly devoted a lot of time attempting to disprove the existence of Christ. He is clearly deeply committed to his pursuance of the Christ!
I suggest that Mr Green read the 1st century historian Josephus's ''Testimonium Flavianum''.
The following passage appears in the Greek version of Antiquities of the Jews xviii 3.3, in the translation of William Whiston:
3.3 Now there was about this time Jesus, a wise man, if it be lawful to call him a man; for he was a doer of wonderful works, a teacher of such men as receive the truth with pleasure. He drew over to him both many of the Jews and many of the Gentiles. He was [the] Christ. And when Pilate, at the suggestion of the principal men amongst us, had condemned him to the cross, those that loved him at the first did not forsake him; for he appeared to them alive again the third day; as the divine prophets had foretold these and ten thousand other wonderful things concerning him.
Julian Begg, Lenham, Kent
Everyone has their god(s). To some it is self; others, money and material goodies; still others, their so-called intellect and "progressive" thinking; and the list goes on ad nauseum. Those false gods will never satisfy the desire within each human being for a loving relationship with the one true God.
Nick, Ann Arbor, Michigan, U.S.A.
Surely those crying, "Where are the funny mosque signs?" are missing the point.
These signs were put up by the churches themselves as witty advertising. They were not put up by Muslims trying to test our Christian tolerance.
I have no idea if mosques put up similar amusing signs, as, like most posters here, I couldn't read their language anyway.
For Kate Pitrone, Ohio, yes we do have such signs in the UK, albeit less prominently, but yours are better as US humo(u)r is better at quick one-liners.
adam, bristol, uk
The funniest church sign are simply the ones that pronounce that they are the house of god. And even funnier, are the sheeple who go there to pray to an imaginary being.
Fenton Queue, Vilamoura, Portugal
Jesus is no more real than Harry Potter or Sherlock Holmes.
Read the bible (a book put together by a committee in 16th century England) I did and its many contradictions and ludicrous statements as fact and truth will turn you off xianity for life.
Once you take the belief blindfold from your eyes you will realise that the whole thing xianity, Islam and Judaism is a house of cards. That is why heresy is punished by death. No room for apostasy here.
Religious belief makes it difficult to accept reality. If I were to show you a colour on a card and say it was yellow and you said it was green because of belief; even if I showed you the world leading authorised colour chart produced by colour makers; the believer would look for all the reasons why the colour chart was wrong instead of seeing that the belief was wrong. That is why it is impossible to argue logically with these fanatics. They believe because they want to believe. So logic does not even enter the equation.

Remember the weekday, to keep it holy. outside a church in Pikesville, Maryland USA

I was moved to distraction, (ho ! ho !) NOT attraction.
There was nothing therein of Catholicity.
James McGarva, Girvan, Ecosse UK
I saw one the other day saying ' never underestimate the power of praystation'
Genius.
Mathew Rees, Cardiff, Wales
Oh, these are awesome. God bless the USA!
stefan, massachusetts, usa
I am an immigrant to the US and I never saw signs like these at churches anywhere else until I came to live here. Initially I was little shocked at how tacky and tasteless they appeared to me. Though almost totally lacking in religion, I thought some were bordering sacrilgious, though it clearly wasn't the particular believers' intentions to be so. There were, however, some clever ones that amused me. Now I am used to seeing them and, hoping for a giggle, like to read them as I drive past.
Oh, and no, we won't get similar mosque signs. Not yet anyway. That should tell us a lot about our Christian based civilisation. I would rather have these tacky signs, signs of a tolerant faith, than not have them, fearing for my life and limbs should I indulge my God given sense of humour or aethetic taste, however coarse, or refined, these might be.
Take careful note, Rowan, Archtwerp of Canterbury.
David Allen, Marietta, USA
I actually find a number of these signs quite amusing (particulary the last one!) even if some of them are fake and I am a Christian; I can't quite understand what everyone has a problem with!
David, Reading, England
Judging by the responses so far you are definitely casting pearls before swine (Matthew 7:6).
Frank Upton, Solihull,
It seems fairly obvious that the two "signs" from the Freedom From Religion Foundation are fakes, so why show them?
George Lenz, Elmont, NY USA
What exactly is "funny" with these church signs? How about doing a series about "funny mosque signs," or are you too chicken for that?
John, Yourtown, Internet,
To Chimaroke, London
It is politically incorrect to favor one religion over another no matter how fallacious or populated they seem. Perhaps you should take a look at the following link of funny mosque signs.

Justin Robb, Gold Coast, Australia
Could we please have funny mosque signs? Of course no! Its politically incorrect.Thats how you cheapen your own faith and the kids dont see anything in it. What do they do? they run to the faith that gives meaning to their expectations and frustrations; then you call them home grown terrorists.
Chimaroke, London, UK
'Last chance to pray before the freeway' has always been one of my favourites.
Naomi, London,
Are there no such signs in the UK? Are we the only people in the world who entertain one another this way?
Kate Pitrone, Chardon, Ohio
"Repaint or Repent." The slogan of the paint wholesale business of distant relatives in a previous existence. A certain level of self-interest Iâm sure youâll agree.
Andrew Milner, Yokohama, Japan
Its a sign all those signers should repaint
and turn to the Lord
to be signed up in His Book of Life.
