Today “the magical experience of a generation becomes a movie picture event”. Just as parents across the country have finally learnt how to block out the songs in the car on the school run, have managed to control their up-chuck reflex as Zac Effron's enlarged, cheesy face stares out of their daughter's bedroom door and have resigned any rights to the TV on a weekend, Disney has thought of a new way to torture them. Unlike the previous two offerings, the latest instalment, High School Musical 3: The Senior Years, is being released on the big screen - that's two hours you'll have to sit though, folks. For those of you who either enjoy the series (there must be some) or need a glimpse of what you are in store for, visit tinyurl.com/69lgxm.
For the rest of us, the great and intrepid journalists from Today Now! on The Onion News Network have gone behind the scenes at the Disney Genetic Engineering Lab to discover just how their scientist go about creating a child star such as Hilary Duff, Miley Cyrus and the High School stars we have so grown to love. To watch the (highly amusing) “growing” process, visit tinyurl.com/5dbnzb.
And for those who were clinging to the hope that the loveable teens will disappear for ever once they leave school - ie, at the end of the trilogy - think again. Work has apparently already begun on a fourth instalment. When, three weeks ahead of its release, it has already made £500,000 in advance bookings (more than the last Harry Potter movie) it would be safe to say that there will definitely be more.
Not wanting to miss out on what is obviously an incredibly lucrative formula, ITV has thought up a British version of the hit, Britannia High, which is also due to hit our screens towards the end of the month, with its own squeaky-clean teens, catchy songs and inappropriate dance routines (previewing at tinyurl.com/4qoqgp). Damn those people at Disney for forgetting to patent their genetic engineering techniques.
